At S+H Construction, we’re actively participating in “green” building practices whenever possible. In cooperation with several of our suppliers, including Sterritt Lumber, we’re encouraging owners to authorize us to purchase Forest Stewardship Council lumber for their new home and renovation projects. Forest Stewardship Council is a growing and well-known organization that tracks the chain of custody of lumber and certifies by third party that the lumber originates in approved renewable forests. This is just one aspect of S+H’s green commitment, but an important one. Other activities can include:
A contemporary geothermal house we recently built in Belmont was just featured in Design New England – read about it here. LEED Certification We advise clients who are contemplating a new home or large renovation to have their projects audited for LEED® (Leadership in Environmental Design) certification by an energy consultant. LEED is the nationally-accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high-performance green buildings. This review generally costs about $1,500 for an average-sized house, but will usually pay for itself in realized cost savings within a few years. Depending on the nature of the project, S+H Construction may pay for one-half of this cost if we are awarded the job. Please contact us to learn more. For more information about LEED, visit the U.S. Green Building Council. Solar
S+H is a proud member of the
Solar Energy Business
Association of New England. We intend to install several solar
photovoltaic panel projects on homes within the next six months, and we
will soon be offering solar installations as a regular part of our
construction services. |
