Renewable Energy, Solar, and Solar PV.

Solar
project recently installed on the home of S+H President Doug Hanna.
 |
Medium-sized
residential 3.7 kilowatt PV system |
 |
Produces
approximately 65% of the electrical needs of the home |
 |
Uses
22 175-watt SunTech solar panels and a Unirac racking system
tied into the house electrical panel through an Xantrex inverter
to produce utility-grade electricity |
 |
All
electricity not used by the home is sent back into the electrical
grid and sold to NStar |

S+H
Construction's Renewable Energy Division designs, integrates and installs
solar electric power (PV), solar thermal hot water, and geothermal heating
and cooling systems. We have delivered a number of renewable energy
projects over the last several years.
-
Solar Photovoltaic
(PV) panels are made of silica wafers that produce electricity
that can be used directly or stored in batteries. Most systems connect
to the utility grid so that your unused solar power is sold back
to the utility in a process known as net metering. Check
out our newest solar PV project. We also have a number of
other PV projects in the works.
-
Solar thermal rooftop
collectors produce hot water for domestic use and/or space heating.
Our systems can integrate with your existing boiler or hot water
heater and produce heat even in the winter. Thermal is generally
less expensive than PV and has a shorter pay back period. We are
currently installing several projects with solar thermal.
-
Geothermal (aka
geo-exchange) leverages the constant temperature of the earth as
a source of both heat and cooling energy. While the up-front cost
of drilling wells and installing new HVAC equipment can be high,
these systems are so efficient that they pay for themselves quickly
in reduced energy bills. A good example is the steel-and-glass geo-exchange
contemporary home in Belmont, where we installed a geothermal
well.
-
Energy conservation
consultations and advice are offered to all S+H clients as part
of our regular construction service. This includes review of energy
use, condition of insulation, windows and doors, lights, appliances,
and HVAC systems. We offer suggestions that can immediately reduce
utility bills and save money on energy use throughout the home for
years to come. Conservation reduces operating costs, pays back quickly,
reduces carbon footprint, and delivers increased comfort.
Complete
Services to Help You Plan and Build.
At
S+H, our renewable energy and solar services include everything from
systems planning to installation and maintenance of your equipment.
There are state and federal tax incentives for all renewable energy
systems as well as a significant rebate program in Massachusetts, called
Commonwealth Solar,
offered to homeowners who install PV and wind. These programs - along
with utility rebates, renewable energy generation credits, and commercial
tax depreciation schedules - are available to help make renewable energy
affordable right now.
Don't
worry too much about the paperwork! S+H is a full turnkey installer
and performs all of the paperwork necessary for homeowners to qualify
for and obtain Commonwealth Solar rebates. If requested, we can also
help you complete other paperwork to facilitate a fast, smooth installation
with maximum potential cost savings.
As
