Mid-Century Addition

Newton, MA

Project Participants:

Designer: Diane Burcz

Nestled on a hillside in Newton, this mid - century modern home was designed by a collaborator of Walter Gropius named Samuel Glaser, and built in 1949. Samuel Glaser was a prominent architect who designed some of Boston's leading structures. A relocated California couple hired us to renovate the basement, and build a kitchen / mudroom addition to improve access to the backyard. Removing the asbestos floor tile led to the restoration of the original concrete floor. Working with the owner, Diane Burcz, who is an interior designer, S+H provided the bones of the renovation while Diane sourced many of the casework and finishes. We also did extensive sitework, including landscaping and stonework, along with below grade drainage at the back of the property.
