Sometimes, the best way to add additional livable space to your home is going down, instead of up. We are seeing a shift with many homeowners finishing or remodeling their basements to add extra square footage to their homes for their family needs.
There are a few important aspects to consider when renovating a basement. The first is being aware of the zoning laws for where you live, which you can read more about here. The second and most damaging consideration is water. At S+H Construction we developed our own fail-safe basement waterproofing method. Our unique system revolutionizes waterproofing old fieldstone, brick-walled, or concrete basements. Waterproofing old foundations is difficult when done from the exterior because it often involves excavation, disruption of landscape and plantings, backfilling, and then replanting. Our waterproofing process is done completely from the inside and stops water from coming through the walls using crystals that grow in the presence of water, filling capillaries in the mortar and concrete, which stops the migration of water.
Many of the basements we have worked on are multifunctional spaces. They include game rooms, bathrooms, workout rooms, and additional family rooms, giving families the additional space they need without changing the existing footprint of their home.
