Staircases are significant in your home as they can impact your interiors’ appearance and practicality. We’ve gathered some of our past favorite staircase designs to inspire you.
Stair #1 Historic Meets Modern
S+H worked on a complete renovation of this gorgeous nineteenth-century home before being hired by the new homeowners and, again, starting from scratch. This time around, they started anew with a clean, modern look for this three-story beauty in a historic Boston neighborhood. As a recognized historical home, the renovation had to comply with the restrictions of the historic district.
Stair #2 Victorian Home Renovation
The owners of a Victorian home in West Cambridge wanted to update the look of their house. We added extra windows to the design to let in more natural light. Additionally, we raised the ceilings, opened the staircase, and replaced the old rails with a modern metal railing. We swapped out the original moldings for lighter, cleaner ones and installed new bleached oak flooring. The complete interior transformation resulted in a more modern and seamless design.
Stair #3 Craftsman Style
This Craftsman-style residential renovation was for a couple in Lexington. They wanted to turn their 10,000-square-foot home into a beautiful, active space where every interior and exterior area expresses the homeowners’ tastes and addresses the needs of a growing family. In the Craftsman style spirit, the interior details are intended to be enjoyed for themselves rather than subsumed in the overall design. These produced notable technical challenges (and satisfactions!) for our craftsmen, including the broad arched doorway, the tiled and mantled fireplaces, built-in cabinetry, and distinctive stairway molding treatments.
