Stairs are perhaps the most exacting of tasks required of the carpenter. Usually, framing specialists execute the structural frame, but for this demanding project, the finished carpenter insisted on building it himself. There were issues, such as code requirements for a continuous handrail, and accommodations made for a salvaged, original Victorian newel post. The master carpenter knew exactly what it would take to get it right the first time, so that’s how we did it.
